Terry Winslow

Cr.Photog, D.S.D., Hon.F.Ph.

I came to Grand Island with my family from Blair, Nebraska. Started School at Barr Jr High in 7th grade. I graduated from Grand Island Senior High in the class of 1965, where I met my future wife Nancy Swartz.
I attended the Rochester (New York), Institute of Technology majoring in Photography and UNL majoring in Anthropology.
In the middle of all of that Nancy and I married in 1967 and moved back to the Grand Island Area in 1968.
We have 3 children, Wendy, Jennifer and Terry Jr.. Nancy finished her teaching degree and taught Early Childhood Handicapped for the Columbus Educational Service Unit until she passed away in 2005.

I have been a photographer in Grand Island, Nebraska for over 53 years. I started my career at the Lumbard-Leschinsky Studio in 1962, sweeping floors and washing windows while in Junior High. In High School I was working on the sales floor of the camera store and in the darkrooms.
In 1968, after attending college, I returned to become one of the child and wedding photographers. In 1972 I was promoted to Studio Manager and lead photographer.
In 1982 I purchased the Don Bartelt Studio at Five Points and continued there until I closed the studio in 2007, I then joined a Co-op Studio that I eventually managed until 2012 and closed.
In 2013 I joined the staff at Hal Maggiore Photography as a part time digital artist and occasional assistant to Hal. In April of 2012 Hal Sold his property and joined me on his road to semi-retirement in.
I now work only on projects that interest me including teaching, mentoring and some occasional sessions that are interesting and inspiring to me.

This is pretty boring stuff that only means that I have been around a long time.

I have been a member of both the Professional Photographers of America and the Professional Photographers of Nebraska since 1968. I Have been awarded Life Membership in both.
I achieved my Photographic Craftsman degree and received the "National Award", For Meritorious Contributions to Professional Photography, from PPA in 2005. I was also a CERTIFIED Photographer from 1982 until I continued on my retirement in 2017. I was also a PPA Councilperson for 2 years and a State CERTIFICATION LIAISON for 5 years.

I joined the PPofN Board of directors in 1985 and was President in 1996. I now hold a Diamond Service Degree and Honorary Fellow of Photography Degree in that organization. I also recently served as the Past President Consultant to the board for 2 years.

I have also served on the Board of Directors and was President of the Central Nebraska Professional Photographers of Nebraska a PPA Affiliate, which was a group of photographers that stretched from Highway 14 to Scottsbluff. (the "forgotten" part of Nebraska).

In 2007 I was appointed to the Board of Directors of the regional Heart of America PPA Affiliate comprising of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa state affiliates. I was elected as President of this board in 2012.

This year, 2021, I am assisting like minded individuals in organizing a new, area photographer's group, Nebraska Photographer's Guild.
