MY NON-BLOG
-PRESENT TO PAST

2016 has included some travel and more PPofN conferences as well as my other part- time activities.

January 2015 I attended the PPA Imaging Conference held in Nashville and the PPof N conferences held in February and September. I have continued as one of the two PPA Certification Liaisons for Nebraska. I also am continuing to mentor and do some work locally, mostly graphic design and retouching.

In late October 2013 I was appointed to the PPA National Council and attended my first Council meeting in Phoenix , January 2014. Also in January I acted as the Jury Chair for the 2014 PPofN annual print competition

March 2013 I closed the operation of my Co-op Studio location on North Broadwell St and joined as a full time member of Photocilque a Portrait Studio Co-op, located at 2309 N. Webb Rd. My first step to a partial retirement. I plan to continue working for a few local photographers doing image preparation with some portrait photography. I also am continuing to Mentor and consult with a small group of studio owners and photographers in numerous aspects of our craft..

January 2012 I served as Print Chair for the PPofN annual print competition.

June I2, 2011 I was sworn in as President of the Heart of America Professional Photographers Association. The HOAPPA is a regional affiliate of the Professional Photographers of America, that was comprised of the states of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Prior service to HOAPPA included serving as a board member, Secretary, Treasurer and was Co Chairman & Chairman of the annual Print Competition for 4 years. I also was a platform presenter and seminar presenter for 3 years in the Joe Brown Workshops at earlier conferences. Also a regular attendee of the semi-annual and then annual conferences across the membership area. Unfortunately due to restructuring of the regional print competition judging areas we, with long discussion and heavy hearts, decided to discontinue our HOPPA regional group due to the primary reason for our original charter being changed. September of 2010 I was presented with an Honorary Fellow Degree from the Professional Photographers of Nebraska at their annual Fall Conference. I am honored to be part of the select group of 17 so honored since 1974 when the Fellowship Program began.
January of 2010 I became a Nebraska Certification liaison for the national Certified Professional Photographer program. I have been Certified since 1982 and have been the only Certified Photographer in Grand Island since that time.
In 2010 I assisted as Registrar at CAMPP, a one week school for photographers that was held on the campus of Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska. I also assisted Robert O. Seat with both his Basic and Advanced Photoshop classes that week. There is always something new to be learned in Photoshop.

I officially locked the doors on the old location for the last time at 4:30 on January 14, 2008. It has been a long 4 weeks moving. 25+ years of my stuff and another 17 years worth of Don Bartelt's If anyone needs some 42 year old dust I can find some for you. Although the Bartelt Studio name is finally completely detached from mine, I've been trying for 15 years, I'm sure it will still be associated with me, just as Lumbard Leschinsky's is even though that studio closed in 1984. I am now the managing member of 'the photographers" a cooperative group of 5 photography businesses sharing studio space at 2326 N Broadwell Ave. in Grand Island.

June 2007 I completed a three days instruction on using Painter X at the Kansas Professional Photographer's School. Using this technique I will be able to further enhance my photographic art and achieve a new artistic level in my portraiture. 2009 included an additional 3 days at KPPS under the tutelage of Kirk Volclain for new High School Senior Portrait techniques.

April 2007, I was presented with the Professional Photographers of Nebraska Diamond Service Degree. This fellowship award is earned for service to the organization. To date there has been only 3 of these degrees awarded. Previous to this award I was presented both the Silver Service and the Gold Service Degrees.

I have been the owner of Portraits by Terry, formerly the Don Bartelt Studio, since 1982.

I was the manager of another Grand Island studio, the Lumbard Leschinsky Studio, for 12 years prior to purchasing Bartelt’s. I actually worked there for over 15 years.

In April 2005 I was presented the Professional Photographers of America National Award. This award was selected and presented by my peers for service to the photography industry.

I have been a member of the Professional Photographers of Nebraska since 1968 and served on the board of directors from 1988 to 1997. I was elected president in 1995-96 and currently hold the Diamond Service Degree and an Honorary Fellow Degree in the Professional Photographers of Nebraska Fellowship program.

A member of the Professional Photographers of America since 1968, I have been Grand Island’s only PPA Certified photographer since 1982.

In January 2005 I earned the Craftsman Photographer Degree with an additional Gold Bar since from the Professional Photographers of America.

I have presented, as a platform speaker and instructor, at numerous PPA Heart of America regional conferences and PPofN state conferences. January 2007 I conducted a class on Basic Posing and Lighting Skills, for beginning photographers, at the PPofN Winter Conference held in Grand Island. Recent past participation was as a member of the print exhibition crew at the 2006 Heart of America Conference held in Omaha. I also presented the PP of A National Award for Nebraska to the 2006 recipient Donnis Heftle-Bullock, from Cozad, and assisted in presenting the 2007 National Award to Tom Sterba of Omaha.
